Commander background
Deck description
Revenant Recon is a Dimir commander deck led by Mirko, Obsessive Theorist, a flying, vigilant Vampire Detective that grows whenever you surveil. The list leans hard into cheap cantrips and repeatable surveil to filter draws, stock the graveyard, and steadily raise Mirko’s power so his end step trigger can reanimate larger threats. That engine turns simple setup cards into real pressure once Mirko starts bringing back value creatures and finishers. Games tend to play at a measured, interactive pace: countermagic and removal buy time, while self-mill and recursion keep resources flowing through sweepers. Finality counters mean the reanimated creatures are temporary, but the deck compensates by looping ETB effects, reusing reanimation like Animate Dead and Necromancy, and threatening big closers such as Rise of the Dark Realms, Grave Titan, or Massacre Wurm. Players who enjoy incremental advantages, graveyard lines, and tuning for more surveil payoffs or heavier reanimation targets will find plenty of natural upgrade paths.
